So, it was announced today that the burning down of St Veyan’s was the responsibility of Emily Armish. She is the wife of the head-teacher at the local comprehensive.
Obviously, something of a shock to us all, the husband especially, I would imagine. It appears that she was having a ‘romantic liaison’ with an unknown someone. Candles were involved and, at some point in their evening, an unfortunate accident occurred, and the conflagration spread to the building itself.
An ignoble end to the church, which I have always considered a sweet little building. One of Greigbury’s hidden treasures, now lost to history.
